Anthony Whiting, born in Mexico of an English mother and American father has lived in

Latin America,  North Africa, Asia, Italy, Sweden and England in addition to the U.S. Studying

and working in these diverse cultures has helped him develop unusual empathy and sensitivity

to people, places and the natural world as well as fluency in five languages.

Anthony received a B.Arch. degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and subsequently served as an architect in the Peace Corps in Tunisia.  While there he was greatly impressed by local art and craft forms, by the textures and colors of the desert and by the cultures of the peoples in North Africa. He practiced architecture internationally for 21 years while based in Africa, Italy and England. His works are in numerous collections on both sides of the Atlantic and he has had numerous one-man and group exhibitions in England and the U.S.

Anthony has studied painting at graduate university level and at workshops with Barbara Nechis, Al Brouillette, Jean Dobie, Paul Leveille, Margaret Martin, Charles Sovek and Robert Burridge. He has art teaching experience to groups and private students in his studios in his former studios in Rome, London, New York, Greenwich, CT and now, Jacksonville, FL.  He has taught community education painting courses at Fletcher Senior High School in Neptune Beach and now teaches in several other Jacksonville locations.
